DP World Prince Rupert Container Terminal successfully completed the transition to the Navis N4 TOS

Prince Rupert is the second largest container terminal in Canada

Manno — November 15 2018 — DSP Data and System Planning successfully supported the
transition of DP World Prince Rupert Terminal to the NAVIS N4 terminal operating system
(TOS).
Prince Rupert selected Navis N4 to improve efficiency, guarantee scalability and sustain
their expansion plans.
The Prince Rupert Terminal expansion was unveiled in August 2017 to increase the facility’s
capacity by 50%, making it one of the fastest growing container ports in North America.
Part of the expansion involved installing massive cranes, bringing the port capacity to 1.35
million TEUs annually. One of the key factors that has helped Prince Rupert succeed is its
proximity to Asia, compared to other North American ports.
The expansion process, required the transition from the legacy terminal operating system
to Navis N4 terminal operating system, which was successfully completed on October 18,
2018.
All operating processes have been affected by the TOS migration and Prince Rupert
Management, smartly aware of the disruptive impact of such a big change, called on
board the best expertise worldwide and assigned to Swiss Company DSP, first Navis implementation
partner, the Project Management, the Software Quality Assurance and the
Business Process analysis and review.
DSP team, composed of Daniele Labate, Robert De Belder and Judith Morton, has been
involved since November 2017 in the project and led the terminal through the transition.
“Terminal operations were stopped for a few hours in the night to allow for data migration.
Operations were restarted promptly and were quickly ramped-up and back to
standard performances in three days after Go-live,” says Daniele Labate, Senior Manager
of DSP Data and System Planning and Project Manager for Prince Rupert N4 Go Live.
“Go-live was a success. Thank you to the entire team led by DSP. Our terminal is now
equipped with NAVIS N4, the latest generation TOS, enabling us to better plan for more
volume and increased productivity, all while further improving the level of service offered
to customers” – says Ricardo Alvarez, Director of Operations of DP World Prince Rupert
