The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has announced a new partnership with port operator, DP World Southampton, which will see the latter donate £50,000 to support the trust in its efforts to improve the local marine environment.

As part of its ‘Secrets of the Solent’ project, part-funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the port and logistics company will fund two sea bins and sponsor the trust's Young Marine Champion Programme.

Nick Loader, UK chief operating officer, said that DP World's business depends on the sea. "We recognise the value and need to establish partnerships with organisations like the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to help undertake robust stewardship of our local marine environment and to combat pollution," he said.

“DP World is committed to protecting the ocean’s natural resources as part of our global sustainability programme, ‘Our World, Our Future’. Our staff at Southampton are looking forward to contributing towards to the future conservation of the Solent which is such an important marine environment and vital trading lane,” he added.

Staff from DP World Southampton will also be lending a hand with everything from surveying the foreshores of the Solent to tree planting in the New Forest.

Kate Sandys, director of fundraising at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, said they were pleased to welcome DP World on board. "This partnership is a fantastic example of how local business can play a vital part in securing nature’s recovery and creating a wilder future for our counties," she said.
