Here at Associated British Ports we are currently recruiting for a number of Port Operatives to join us on a casual basis at our Plymouth Port. You will be working predominately with our customer Brittany Ferries, whose services carry around 450,000 passengers a year from our Plymouth Port, operating daily services from Plymouth to France and weekly services to northern Spain for both passengers and freight.
As a Port Operative you will contribute to the safe and efficient handling of cargo at a Port and carries out a wide range of port related duties including the moor and unmooring of ships and the guiding of traffic on to and off ferries. The position is casual and candidates will need to work evenings and weekends.

Please note that candidates must also be willing to travel to Teignmouth Port as necessary and to work evenings and weekends as shift patterns dictate.
- Marshall ferry traffic on to and off the ferries
- Moor/unmoor vessels
- Operate equipment used to service the ferries
- Report any faults, breakdowns and damages to Operations Supervisor, ensuring they are appropriately recorded
- Complete paperwork associated with various tasks to monitor activities
- Ensure work completed is compliant with Health and Safety Legislation and adhere to Risk Assessments / SSOW / ABP Health & Safety Policy
- Carry out operations in line with relevant regulations and accreditation schemes.To build good working relationships with customers, employees and other port users
- Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required
Skills and Experience
Willing to train to operate port equipment
Willing to work extended hours and weekends as required
Able to work as a team player in a small team (8-10 colleagues)
Previous trade skills
Previous 'hands-on' experience of a variety of port or maritime operations
Experience of operating port equipment, including heavy plant
