Mike Pedone is the Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary of the Environment for the State of Maryland. With more than two decades of experience in private industry, Mr. Pedone advises the Secretary of the Environment on a variety of complex and sensitive issues, with particular focus on matters that require careful balancing of environmental and economic policies.
Prior to joining the Maryland Department of the Environment, Mr. Pedone was the General Counsel for Tradepoint Atlantic, the company that is redeveloping the 3,100 acre Bethlehem Steel property in Sparrows Point, Maryland. One of the largest brownfield projects in the United States, Tradepoint Atlantic includes a short-line railroad, a marine terminal and an industrial wastewater treatment facility. As the General Counsel of Tradepoint Atlantic, Mr. Pedone was responsible for all legal and risk-management affairs of the company, including structuring and negotiation of transactions, government affairs, regulatory compliance, litigation, human resources, labor relations and site security. Mr. Pedone joined Tradepoint Atlantic after serving as the Vice President and General Counsel for its parent company, Redwood Capital Investments, a private investment fund with more than $1 billion in assets under management.
Prior to Redwood Capital, Mr. Pedone was an attorney in the Corporate practice group at Venable LLP, where he represented public and private companies in a variety of industries in mergers and acquisitions, financings, and complex commercial transactions. Mr. Pedone was recognized two years in a row by Chambers USA as one of Maryland’s leading corporate lawyers, and also as a “Rising Star” by Maryland Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Pedone began his career as a software developer and subsequently held various positions in information technology and operations management. In these roles he was responsible for the execution and management of large projects for engineering, insurance and healthcare companies.
Mr. Pedone received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Loyola College and a Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he was an editor of the Maryland Law Review.
