Gangavaram port to grow

India's deep, multi- purpose port at Gangavaram will be expanded with an investment of Rs9.40bil.

The plan is to enhance cargo handling capacity, building related infrastructure, rail tracks and pollution control measures. The result will be that cargo handling capacity will increase from 16.5mill tonnes to 40mill tonnes by 2018.

The port has adopted an Environmental Management Plan consisting of mitigation measures, monitoring programme and institutional measures. The aim is to control pollution at the source level where possible followed by treatment measures before discharged, if required.
