DP World has won the prestigious Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) for its work in helping to improve the efficiency of the supply chain.

DP World, UAE region won the award in the mobility management category for its automated gate system project, which commenced operation in Jebel Ali port in August 2010.

Mohammed Al Muallem, senior vice president and managing director of DP World, UAE Region, said: ”We are proud to have received this award in recognition of our automated gate project. It is part and parcel of our many initiatives aimed at easing traffic congestion and avoiding traffic bottlenecks at the gates around and inside Jebel Ali Port. This also reduces costs as well as carbon emissions and motivates us to work even harder towards sustainability within our business and our community.”

The automated gate system project determines each truck’s entrance time to the port and automatically identifies trucks. This data is fed into an innovative system that generates information to increase capacity of workflow.

The DAST annual award is organised by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and is awarded in five categories. It aims to raise awareness and to encourage the development of a safe and user friendly transportation system.
