Premier Marinas in the UK has turned to the potential benefits of solar power to support its immediate and future energy needs.

It turned to smart energy solutions company, Green Power Projects, to restore its faith in solar power at its Eastbourne site which previously had ineffective panels installed back in 2012.

“We were impressed by Green Power Projects attention to detail and willingness to sort out the problems they had identified at our Eastbourne marina,” said John Cervenka, operations director, Premier Marinas.

“They soon had our solar PV system up and working producing green energy at the level we had hoped to achieve.”

Solar savings

Green Power Projects installed solar PV panels across five buildings with a total area of 7,700 square metres.

Premier has now committed to a plan of introducing solar power as an energy source and income generator throughout their portfolio of marinas and is taking advantage of the Government's generous Feed in Tariffs (FiT).

To date the Green Power Projects team have completed a further five sites for Premier at Chichester, Swanwick, Falmouth, Southsea and Gosport.

A new marina, already in the early stages of construction planning will also have solar PV as an integral power source linking all building in the estate.

Good ROI

Mr Cervenka said that the installation at the six sites has improved ROI from eight years down to five.

He said that the decision to go for solar was made on the back of an energy usage review the marina operator conducted in 2017.

Green Power Projects also recommended replacing the marina’s halogen lights with LED to achieve an 80% saving in power. Premier said that using LEDs has not only provided savings on the usage, but all the installations have a seven-year guarantee with zero maintenance costs.

The initial price of the bulbs designed and manufactured by Amazon Filters Ltd was paid for with the savings in 18 months.
