Coal Export on Hold
14 Mar 2011
Opponents claimed victory when Australia-based Ambre Energy Ltd withdrew its application for an export terminal to ship coal from Montana and Wyoming to Asia via the Columbia River port of Longview, Washington.
Millennium Bulk Terminals said it would reapply after conducting a new environmental impact study. It is one of several coal-exporting terminals producers seeking to develop on the Pacific coast to meet booming demand in China. Opponents of the $US100mil project include The Sierra Club, Earthjustice and the Washington Environmental Council.
