International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI) recently took delivery of eight new rubber tyred gantries (RTGs) for its flagship, Manila International Container Terminal (MICT). Four of these new RTGs have been successfully commissioned and are now in use at the terminal.

The new Cummins QSM-11 RTGs have smaller engines for less fuel consumption compared to the other RTGs at the MICT. Each RTG has a stacking capacity of one over five high and has six containers wide working capacity. It also has a VYCON Regen fuel saving and energy storage device installed. Each has an automatic steering using global positioning (GPS) and automatic container positioning system. The telescopic spreader is capable of lifting 41 tonnes. With the addition of the new equipment, MICT now has 40 RTGs, the largest fleet in the country. The RTG Cummins QSM-11 is also the first of its kind in the Philippines. MICT is the flagship operation of ICTSI, is a leading port management company involved in the operations and development of 19 marine terminals and port projects in 13 countries worldwide. For over 20 years, ICTSI has been the private sector partner of choice for world-class trade facilitation in the economies it serves.

• ICTSI’s Latin American Contecon Guayaquil SA (CGSA), manager and operator of Guayaquil Multipurpose and Container Terminal (GMCT) recently became the first Latin American container port to be ISO certified after the company received four ISO certifications: ISO 9001 (Quality Management System); ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System); OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety); ISO 28000 (Supply Chain Security Management Systems). CGSA was certified by Bureau Veritas of Ecuador. The four certifications were acquired after a series of audits of all CGSA departments. CGSA recently held a ceremony at its Tourist Terminal to celebrate this achievement. Local government authorities, Guayaquil Port Authority directors, customers, media, and other invited guests were present to celebrate with CGSA. Humberto Palacios, Autoridad Portuaria de Guayaquil president; Luis Cao, CGSA CEO; and Adrián Agazzi, CGSA director of services and technology, explained the certification processes in their speeches at the ceremony. They emphasised CGSA’s compliance to the lease agreement, and highlighted the importance of the certification to the Port of Guayaquil.
