Public input needed for San Diego plan
The Port of San Diego is focusing on environmental stewardship
The Port of San Diego is inviting the public to review and submit comments on its updated natural resources plan through 16 March.
The port sees itself as being an “environmental steward of San Diego Bay”. Its Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP) serves as a roadmap for the port and for the US Navy among others, who are working to preserve the ecosystem of San Diego Bay.
“To improve environmental conditions in and around San Diego Bay, we need to work in a coordinated way with interested parties and stakeholders”, said Lee Burdick, chairwoman of the port’s environmental advisory committee.
As part of the plan, the port completed a 70 acre habitat enhancement project in 2011 – which has helped to restore the habitat for birds and fish.
Many of the port’s environmental projects have been part of the natural resources plan – including scientific research, education for students, water monitoring and the creation of Osprey nesting platforms.
The port is now seeking public comments on the plan to be emailed to: environmental@portofsandiego.org
Comments will be included in the final natural resources document due to be voted on by port commissioners in late 2012.
