Hueneme was the first port in California to be Green Marine certified

A Californian port has received high accolade for its eco-friendly action plans from the Green Shipping Summit USA.

The port received ‘The greenest port of the year’ award for among other reasons, for being the first port in California to be Green Marine certified, installing shore side power and the adoption of its Environmental Framework, which commits the port to being a good environmental steward.

“It was an honour to be nominated amongst a very deserving field of industry leaders, all of which have achieved tremendous advancements in helping green the goods movement supply chain,” said Kristin Decas, port director & CEO of the Port of Hueneme.

“We are committed to continuing our robust efforts to implement green technologies and integrate environmental stewardship into our daily priorities.”

As well as awarding Hueneme for its environmental stewardship, the Summit also named Crowley Maritime Corporation as the greenest shipowner, General Dynamics NASSCO as the greenest shipyard, Wärtsilä as the greenest service provider and ContiTech as the greenest bunkering solution.

The Green Shipping Summit USA is a a spin-off of the Green Shipping Summit which is held in Europe.

It gathers more than 300 global industry leaders, representing companies all across the value chain to discuss the latest shipping news and trends, share knowledge, network, make new business partnerships and together find greener solutions for the future.
