Global environmental solutions company, Lamor Corporation, has demonstrated an innovative new way to recover oil in Halifax, Canada, which is based on the fish net trawling principle.

The demo of Lamor’s Marine Oil Spill Sweeper LMOS 15 Speed Skimming system was completed in cooperation with Lamor’s local representative, Griffin Engineered Systems, for leading Canadian response organisations and companies, including Eastern Canada Response Corporation (ECRC), the Canadian Coast Guard, Department of Defense (DND), ALERT and RMI Marine.

“Being able to demonstrate our equipment on location in the operators’ environment utilising their people and resources is key to proving its ease of use and effectiveness,” said Dan Beyer, general manager, Lamor USA.

The LMOS Sweeper has a solid flotation design which ensures it is easy to deploy, less susceptible to wind forces and provides continuous pumping of oil to the tow vessel from the collection pool.

Its design allows for a single vessel operation that provides effective maneuvrability and superior recovery at speeds of up to 4.5 knots.

During a test carried out by the Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies (NOFO), the system achieved a record oil recovery rate of 96.4%.

Lamor has an agreement to supply and promote Egersund Group’s cutting-edge oil spill response equipment in addition to its own arsenal of oil spill response (OSR) equipment.

Both companies have been working together to perfect the LMOS system even further.
